Cowboys and Victorians…?

Last night Mitch and I spent a couple hours creating his FanExpo Steampunk costume.

For those of you who do not know what Steampunk is, I will be more that happy to fill you in and show you how much fun and easy it is to do.

Steampunk fashion is generally what the Victorian world wold look like if the industrial revolution had the technological advances of today. I’m sure you’ve seen it in movies, or read books about it, but were unaware up until now that it is an ever growing sub-culture.

I first learned about it in 2009 when I went to a small convention in Ottawa.

Gosh was I a dork or what?

If it means anything, that blue dress was the first thing I had ever sewn. Now I costume for community theater.

This was my first Steampunk costume. I wore it to anime North 2011. Most of everything I was wearing I had bought. Nothing had been crafted. It was really easy to find things. I just bought myself a corset, and found a military looking jacket. I created the hat using an old felt hat and gluing bits of things I had found at craft stores.

I still use that piece today! This is my Lolita/Steampunk hat!

Now, back to last night and my boyfriend’s costumes! Mitch had only done Steampunk once before at a very small event in Toronto called Steam on Queen.

He enjoyed it so much that I managed to make a fantastic Steampunk out of him.

Mitch the Victorian Aristocrat.

I think he did a fantastic job with his costumes. We still have a few things to work on, but not half as much as I do!

I can’t wait to show you all of my costumes!
